Growing up is for trees is a 184 pages artist book by Norwegian artist Øivin Horvei. Horvei has no formal training as an artist, which is one of the things we worked to convey in the design. We approached the book in a subtle manner, simplifying hierarchies and Horvei´s work into an object that tells the story of his complex artistic universe, in an easy digestible manner. This way, our approach references an almost anti-attitude towards design (design by non-designers) and the way type is implemented in children books. With a color palette based on primary colors and three different types of paper it communicates Horvei´s artistic universe. Published by Kontur Forlag 2010.
